Georgia Tech Sweeps Siena in Season Opener

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (1-0) swept the Siena Saints (0-1) in its season and home opener Friday afternoon as part of the GT Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Midtown Invite at O’Keefe Gym.

How It Happened
The Jackets jumped out early on the defending MAAC Champions with a 25-14 win in set one. The Jackets didn’t allow the Saints to reach 20 points in either of the remaining games, winning by a score of 25-17 in sets two and three.

“It was a good team effort,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We were able to get a lot of looks. Siena kept the ball alive and they really pushed us to hit the ball over and over. I thought we held our composure and kept going after it.

-The Jackets out-hit Siena .343 to .113, while tallying 44 kills to the Saints’ 28
-Tech served seven aces – Sydney Wilson, Annika Van Gunst and Rebecca Martin had two each and Gabby Benda added one
-Georgia Tech used its middle hitters effectively with Lauren Pitz and Sydney Wilson tallying nine and eight kills, respectively. Outside hitter Teegan Van Gunst added nine kills.
-Four Jackets hit above .300 (min. 5 kills) in Lauren Pitz (.571), Sydney Wilson (.450), Annika Van Gunst (.400) and Teegan Van Gunst (.350).
London Ackermann held down the back row with 14 digs, and Teegan Van Gunst tacked on eight digs.

What’s Next
The Jackets wrap up the first day of the GT Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Midtown against Coastal Carolina at 7:30 p.m.
