PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (9-4, 0-1 ACC) fell in four sets at Pitt (10-3, 1-0 ACC) in both teams’ ACC opener on Friday night.

How It Happened
Pitt’s serving kept Georgia Tech out of system early in game one as Tech called a timeout down 7-3. The Jackets fought back from a 15-9 deficit to get within two 17-15 and force a Pitt timeout. Georgia Tech tied the game at 22-22 and twice more after that, but the Panthers held on for the 26-24 win.

Set two was another back and forth battle. Tied 12-12, Tech score three straight points thanks in part to a kill and solo block by Sydney Wilson to make it 15-12 in the Jackets’ favor. Georgia Tech used that momentum along with four blocks and .387 hitting to win the set 25-21.

The third game featured 10 tied scores and six lead changes. Knotted 18-18, Pitt went on a 7-1 run to win the set 25-19 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

With the score even at 10-10, the Panthers rattled off five straight points to stretch their lead to 15-10 in game four. The Jackets went to work to put themselves within two points 16-14 and force a Pitt timeout. Pitt regrouped to take a 20-15 lead and held on to win the set 25-21.

Quote
“Pitt served us really tough and was able to get ahead with that first set,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We were able to settle in and play a consistent match in set two. The third set we started out shaky in serve receive again and kept playing catch up with them.

“We just have to be able to play more consistent for an entire match. We didn’t and the match got away from us. We have to now turn the page and focus on Virginia Tech who just played a great match against Clemson. It’s another opportunity to go after a good team on the road.”
