THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (7-9, 0-3 ACC) fell 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 18-25) to No. 5 Florida State (14-0, 3-0) Friday night at a sold out O’Keefe Gymnasium.

Neither team had a player with double-digit kills or digs. Senior Courtney Felinski led Tech with nine kills. Sophomore Annika Van Gunst chipped in eight kills and led the Jackets with nine digs.

“Being able to compete with a team of their caliber I think shows good character and fight from our team,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We knew that in order to have a chance to stay in the match we were going to have to side out with them and serve them tough to keep them out of system, and we didn’t do that as often as we needed to in order to stay in the game.

“It was a great match. This environment is unbelievable. It’s so much fun to play here. I think the crowd saw two good teams battling. I’m proud of our team and I think it gives us confidence for Sunday. We just need to turn the page and get ready for Wake Forest.”

Florida State led 6-4 in the opening set and opened that margin to 11-4 behind the serving of Katie Mosher. The Seminoles never let up, winning 25-17.

Tech jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set two and held the lead throughout the first half of the set. It wasn’t until Florida State broke a 15-15 tie that the Seminoles held their first lead in the game.

The Seminoles went on a 6-2 run to take a 22-17 lead, but Tech went to work and tied it 22-all behind the serving of London Ackermann.  Florida State escaped with the next three points to win 25-22.

The Yellow Jackets fought their way back from a 14-9 deficit to close the gap by two, 18-16. From there, the Seminoles rattled off four points and used that momentum to carry them through the set, 25-18.

The Jackets are back in action Sunday, Oct. 5 when the host Wake Forest at O’Keefe Gym. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
