THE FLATS – Senior London Ackermann broke the Georgia Tech all-time dig record in the 3-0 sweep of Syracuse on Sunday afternoon at O’Keefe Gym. Ackermann needed four digs entering the match to surpass the 1,594 mark set by Jenn Beemsterboer in 1987-90. She tallied 18 digs in the match to accomplish the feat and has 1,609 digs in her career with 12 matches left this regular season.

The win marks the fifth-straight for the Yellow Jackets who improved to 15-5 overall and 6-2 in ACC play, while the Orange fell to 5-13 on the season and 4-4 in league action.

How It Happened
The Yellow Jackets raced out to a 14-4 lead in the first set and never looked back to win 25-15. Georgia Tech used five service aces in the game to keep Syracuse off balance.

The second set was a back and forth battle with 12 tied scores and seven lead changes. Knotted at 23-23, Georgia Tech scored the final two points on kills by Gabriela Stavnetchei and Kodie Comby to take game two.

The Jackets withstood a late Syracuse rally in game three en route to a 25-18 victory. Tech used a .325 hitting percentage and nine kills from Teegan Van Gunst to put the set away.

“We’re starting really well, we were not able to sustain that intensity and execution,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “I think as you get through the matches, teams are kind of figuring things out too and finding other ways to attack us and I think that [Syracuse] did that well in the second game. Their outsides really hit well against us. I think that we were able to maintain our composure and do what we needed to do. It’s a great thing to be out of here in three sets so I’ll take that.”

“London is awesome. I’m very happy for her. She’s a player that we put a lot of responsibility on her defensively as far as how we defend the hitters and she’s usually defending the best hitters on the other side which are the outsides. This season, she has been tremendous, just very consistent not only defending but passing, she’s making plays, she’s covering balls, she’s serving really tough. She’s put in the work and she’s putting in the numbers and we’re definitely going to miss having her back there next year.”

Quick Hits
Teegan Van Gunst tallied her 11th double-double of the season with 18 kills and 13 digs. She has recorded double figure kills in 13-straight matches.
Gabriela Stavnetchei added eight kills and eight digs.
Kodie Comby had five kills on .714 hitting, and Sydney Wilson added six kills.
Rebecca Martin had 30 assists to go along with two aces and seven digs.
