Head coach Michelle Collier says:
“I feel like we played two very clean matches this weekend, very low error and disciplined defensively. The challenge this week to my team is to sustain a high level of intensity as we prepare for two very challenging matches at home and be an even better team than we were this weekend. We are on the final sprint of the season and we have a lot of room for growth still. But overall, I’m very proud of how the entire team behaved this weekend, including our bench who was continuously loud and energetic.”

How it happened:
The two teams came out trading points to a 5-5 tie before senior Ashley Askin put Tech ahead by one and back-to-back kills from freshman Cori Clifton pushed the lead to three at 8-5. A kill from senior Gabriela Stavnetchei sparked a 5-0 run for the Jackets, extending their lead to seven at 13-6. The Jackets kept the set out of reach, hitting at a .538 clip for the set and taking the 1-0 advantage at 25-16.

Tech carried its momentum into the second set, jumping to a 4-1 lead. The Eagles came back within one at 4-3 but senior Ashley Askin rolled a kill along the tape to keep Tech ahead. Leading by five off a service ace from freshman Sam Knapp at 10-5, the Jackets brought that lead to six at 12-6 with another kill from Clifton. Boston College tried to regroup with a timeout but senior Gabby Benda came back out with back-to-back service aces to push the score to 14-6. Each time the Eagles made a run at the Jackets’ lead, Tech responded and the White and Gold sealed the set and 2-0 lead at 25-16 off a kill from Stavnetchei.

The third set belonged to the Jackets from the start. A 7-1 run brought the tally to 8-2 in favor of Tech with Askin contributing back-to-back kills. The Eagles would get no closer than five and Stavnetchei completed the sweep by landing three aces in a row to take the third at 25-15.

Tech is back in O’Keefe next weekend for a Friday night match up with Duke on ACC Network Extra at 7 p.m. The Jackets take on Wake Forest on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra to finish out the homestand.
