DURHAM, N.C. – For the first time in 12 years, the Georgia Tech volleyball team (17-5, 8-2 ACC) defeated Duke (14-6, 8-2) in Durham on Sunday afternoon. The Jackets’ 3-1 win was the first one in Durham since Oct. 9, 2004.

The Jackets improved their winning streak to seven matches, while simultaneously snapping Duke’s six-match winning streak.

How It Happened
The first set started as a back and forth battle. Duke gained some momentum to take a two-point lead, 10-8, but the Jackets worked back to tie it 10-10 and then went on a 5-1 run to take a 15-11 lead. The Jackets had set-point at 24-19 and withstood a late Duke rally to win game one, 25-22.

In set two, Duke jumped out to a 4-0 lead and stayed in rhythm throughout the set to win 25-15. In set three, the Yellow Jackets pulled ahead in the middle of the game, 16-12. Tech maintained a high tempo and won the game, 25-20, to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Jackets were down 20-16 in game four and used a 4-0 run sparked by a solo block from Gabi Stavnetchei to tie it 20-20. The two teams traded set point in a nail biter game. At 24-24, a Duke setting error gave Tech match point and the Jackets put it away on a kill by Teegan Van Gunst.
