CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Georgia Tech volleyball team battled back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Boston College Eagles, 3-2 (25-16, 9-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-12), Sunday at Power Gym. The Jackets snapped a six-game losing streak to improve to 8-14 on the season and 2-8 in league play, while the Eagles fell to 8-14 overall and 0-10 in the ACC.

In Georgia Tech’s 13th-straight win against the Eagles, three Yellow Jackets hit above .300 with double-digit kills. Senior Jennifer Percy led the team with 15 kills and a .303 hitting clip, while sophomore Chanell Clark-Bibbs tallied 10 kills and a career-high .381 hitting percentage. Quinn Evans tied her career-high with 13 kills and a .445 percentage.

“It was good to see us show some resiliency today against Boston College,” head coach Tonya Johnson said. “We certainly needed a win today, but more importantly it was good to see us grind it out after being down 2-1.”

The Jackets pulled ahead early in the opening stanza with six-straight points to go up 11-6. Tech found its rhythm and broke the set open to go up 10 points, 19-9, capped off on a solo block by Percy. A kill from freshman Annika Van Gunst gave Tech set point, 24-16, and a BC blocking error handed Tech the set, 25-16.

The Eagles regrouped and jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second frame. BC extended its advantage to 13-4 on a four-point streak, and then to 17-5 on an additional four-point swing. The Eagles dug in and ran away with the game, 25-9, limiting Tech to a .100 hitting clip.

The momentum stayed with Boston College in the third game, as the Eagles took the lead from the first point and clung to it. Percy led the charge on a Georgia Tech four-point rally late in the set to close the gap to five, but BC held on for a 25-19 victory.

In the fourth set, the Jackets started out behind the Eagles, but worked back into the game on a kill by Percy to knot the score, 13-13. As Boston College pulled away, the Jackets continued to rally and fought back again to within one, 21-20, to force a BC timeout. A huge block by Percy and Clark-Bibbs provided a momentum shift in Tech’s favor, tying the score 21-21, and a cross-court kill by Percy gave the Jackets a 22-21 edge. A kill courtesy of Evans pushed the match to five sets.

Georgia Tech had an 8-7 lead at the break in the fifth frame and another key block by Percy and Clark-Bibbs made it 9-7. BC rallied for three points behind two service aces by Alexandra Trobbe to take the lead, 10-9.

Tech sophomore Wimberly Wilson tallied a career-high three service aces in the match, and two of them came at critical times. Her second and third aces of the contest gave Tech the lead 13-12 and, one point later, the match 15-12.

The Jackets are back in action with a pair of home matches next weekend. Tech hosts Virginia at 6 p.m. Friday and Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. Sunday on ESPN3.
