NC State Defeats #GTVB, 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (11-15, 4-9 ACC) fell at NC State (14-10, 3-9) in straight sets (21-25, 12-25, 19-25) Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum.  

 

Freshman Sydney Wilson led the Yellow Jackets with eight kills on 16 swings for a .312 hitting percentage. Annika Van Gunst and Teegan Van Gunst each had seven kills, while Courtney Felinski chipped in five.

 

NC State pulled away from the Yellow Jackets early in the first game, turning a one-point 8-7 lead into a 12-7 margin. The Jackets went to work and cut the Wolfpack’s lead to three 21-18 capped off by a kill from Wilson.

 

The Jackets got within two on a kill from Annika Van Gunst, 22-20, but the Pack prevailed to win 25-21. The Jackets out-hit the Wolfpack .400 to .367 in the opening game, and four Yellow Jackets in Wilson, Annika Van Gunst and Teegan Van Gunst tallied four kills each.

 

The Jackets trailed by two, 8-6, before a kill by Lauren Pitz and block by Pitz and Annika Van Gunst knotted the game 8-8. From there, the Wolfpack laced together eight-straight points to go up 16-8. The Wolfpack tallied five of their eight aces for the match throughout the second game on its way to a 25-12 second-set victory.

 

Georgia Tech led 9-7 in game three, but the Pack went on a 5-3 run to tie it up 12-12. The teams battled back and forth, tying the score at 13 and again at 14-14, when NC State rattled off three straight to make it 17-14.

 

Tech pulled within one, 17-16, thanks to a Wilson kill and an ace from Teegan Van Gunst, and the Wolfpack went to work to take a 23-16 lead. The Pack kept its momentum putting the set away 25-19 and the match 3-0.

 

The Jackets are back in action Friday, Nov. 14 when they host Boston College on Senior Night. First serve at O’Keefe Gym is set for 5 p.m.
