THE FLATS –Georgia Tech volleyball (13-15, 8-9 ACC) swept Clemson (7-22, 2-15 ACC) for the second time this season on senior night in O’Keefe Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Head coach Michelle Collier says:
“I’m very proud of how our team played tonight. Our seniors were very deserving of a performance like this. I am so grateful for all the hard work they have put into this program on and off the court and I am excited that we get to play three more matches with them on our home court.”

How it happened:
The Jackets came out ready to go and bounced to a quick 10-4 lead, causing the Tigers to call a timeout. Tech pushed its lead to as many as eight at 14-6 but the Tigers fought back with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to three. Junior Lauren Frerking ended Clemson’s run with a kill and Tech brought its lead back to six at 17-11 but the Tigers once again fought back to come within three at 17-14. Using its first timeout of the set, Tech regrouped and finished out the set strong with an 8-3 run, pocketing the first set at 25-17 for the 1-0 lead.

Carrying its momentum into the second set, the Jackets took an early lead at 8-4 off a kill from senior Ashley Askin. Clemson brought the score to a tie at 11-11 and 13-13 but the Jackets never trailed. Leading by only two at 17-15, seniors Gabriela Stavnetchei and Sydney Wilson combined to take three in a row for the Jackets to lead at 20-15. The Tigers used a timeout and tried to come back but a service ace from Askin put the set away for the Jackets at 25-19 for the 2-0 lead.

The Tigers came out fighting in the third and the match stayed close, featuring six ties and three lead changes. Tied at 13-13, a block from Kodie Comby and Frerking put Tech ahead for good. Wilson scored the final five points of the match for the Jackets to complete the sweep at 25-18.
