Volleyball Hosted Chinese Club Team
Yellow Jackets fell in four sets to Beijing Volleyball Club
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball hosted the Beijing Volleyball Club on Tuesday and fell in four tightly-contested sets, 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 27-29), at O’Keefe Gym against a team that featured 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiaotong.
Prior to the match, the Jackets hosted the team from Beijing for lunch, viewed Bobby Dodd Stadium and took a campus tour. After the match, the teams joined for a dinner reception at O’Keefe.
“I think it’s really important to be exposed to a different style of volleyball and different cultures,” Georgia Tech head coach Michelle Collier said. “The strengths and weaknesses, you have to learn to play the game and be adaptable. When you get an opportunity to play a team like this and respond the way we did it shows me that we’re doing something really good here.”
The women's team continues its swing through the United States with matches against Colorado State, UCLA, Cal Baptist and the USA National Team.
Beijing Automotive Volleyball Club plays in the 361 Chinese Volleyball League and was established by Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau and the BAIC group back in 2010.
