Volleyball goes undefeated in Brazil

SÃO PAULO, Brazil – On the team’s final day in Sᾶo Paulo, the Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated Sᾶo Caetano, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon to win all eight matches in Brazil.  

The Jackets were slow out of the gate as Sᾶo Caetano opened to a 9-2 lead in set one and never looked back winning 25-16.

Georgia Tech picked it up and took a 7-4 lead in game two and expanded that to 15-9. Tech pulled away by as many as 10 points, 21-11, before winning the game, 25-13, on a kill by Sydney Wilson to even the match 1-1.

The third set started as a back and forth battle with ties at 5-5 and 8-8, before Sᾶo Caetano began to pull away 12-8 and 14-11. The Jackets went to work and pulled within one, 16-15, and eventually tied the game 18-18. Sᾶo Caetano stayed aggressive to get ahead 24-20 and got the point they needed to win 25-20

The Jackets stayed close to Sᾶo Caetano and were within two points at 14-12 in game four. Georgia Tech worked to tie the game 16-16, and took the lead 17-16 on a block by Gabriela Stavnetchei and Kodie Comby. The Jackets used that momentum to keep the lead and win 25-22.

In the fifth set, Tech took an 8-3 lead thanks to a block by Lauren Pitz and Teegan Van Gunst. The Jackets put the set away 15-5 on a kill by Pitz.
