@GTVolleyball Schedule Announced
Jackets kick off season Aug 28-29 with home tournament
THE FLATS -- Georgia Tech volleyball head coach Michelle Collier released the 2015 schedule highlighted by a season-opening home tournament, six matches against 2014 NCAA Tournament participants and 15 home contests at O'Keefe Gym.
"I am looking forward to our 2015 schedule," Collier said. "We open competition at home, then, we head over to Athens for the Georgia Challenge. I'm really looking forward to our tournament at Nebraska, not only will there be great competition, we'll also be playing in one of the best volleyball environments in the country; their fans love the game and it'll be fun and challenging to play there.
"Our ACC schedule is as tough as ever. We have the opportunity to play very talented teams that carry some of the best players and coaches in the country. We are looking forward to our home matches and having the opportunity to play the teams that finished in the top four last year in our loud O'Keefe environment, as well performing better and stronger on the road than we have been in years past. They say if you want to be the best you have to play the best and we are definitely doing that in our schedule."
The Yellow Jackets play in three tournaments on consecutive weekends before kicking off ACC action. Tech opens the season at home, beginning August 28 at the Georgia Tech Invitational by welcoming Siena, Coastal Carolina, UT Martin and The Citadel to O'Keefe Gym.
The following weekend, Tech makes the short trip to Athens for the Georgia Challenge, featuring the Bulldogs, Georgia State and Mercer. Tech returns home for a midweek match against Auburn at O'Keefe on Sept. 6, before hitting the road again with a weekend trip to Lincoln, Neb. for the Ameritas Players Challenge -- a field that features 2014 NCAA quarterfinalist Nebraska, South Florida and UC Davis -- to wrap up their road tournament schedule.
The Yellow Jackets play 19 conference matches, with just six home-and-home opponents (Clemson, Boston College, Florida State, Miami, Louisville, Notre Dame). Tech begins conference play on the road at Clemson, and its first ACC home match is Sept. 27 against Boston College.
