Linn Earns All-South Region Honors at Championship Meet
Women finish seventh, men place ninth at region championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Georgia Tech cross country senior David Herren placed 11th overall in the men's race to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the 2007 South Region Championships on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla.
Herren finished in a time of 30:58 to lead the men to a ninth-place finish. The Jackets scored 230 points, as Alabama ran away with the 10K race title with 28 points on the day. The women's team finished with a total of 237 points in the 6K race won by Atlantic Coast Conference foe Florida State, who totaled 40 points.
"We are very proud of David for his tremendous performance today," assistant coach Becky Megesi said. "He has run very well all year and this is the perfect way for him to close out his cross country career at Georgia Tech."
Herren was followed by senior Cristan Duvall, who came in 30th with a time of 31:53 in the men's race. Junior E.C. Gibbs finished third for the Jackets and 57th overall with a time of 32:57. Rounding out the Yellow Jackets top five were junior Casey Gramling in 77th place with a time of 33:38 and junior James Taylor, who placed 81st (33:51).
Senior Elena Linn crossed the line in 22nd place with a time of 21:31 to lead the women at the championship meet. Linn earned All-South Region honors for her performance. Senior Nisha Kurian crossed second for the Jackets and 30th overall with a time of 21:56. Tech senior Jenny Sims finished 40th (22:16) for Tech.
Crossing the line fourth for the women's team was sophomore Lindsey Pickens, who crossed 80th overall with a time of 23:44. Senior Maria Hampton closed out the Jackets top five with a 83rd-place finish and a time of 23:49.
Herren will compete on Monday, Nov. 19 at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
