2015 Cross Country Schedule Announced

Aug. 12, 2015

2015 Schedule

THE FLATS — The Georgia Tech cross country team announced its 2015 schedule on Wednesday that features seven meets. The Yellow Jackets kick off the season at the Jacksonville State Opener on Sept. 4.

“The schedule is a little different than previous years and we’re looking forward to the competition we’ll see during our four meets prior to the championship season,” head coach Alan Drosky said. “We open with a meet hosted by Jacksonville State that we’ve never been to, with shorter than normal racing distances and a solid line-up of teams.”

Following the season-opener, the Yellow Jackets run in the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn. (Sept. 19) and the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. (Oct. 3).

“We’ll travel to Vanderbilt and compete against a strong group of teams from the South Region, and then we’ll return to Spartanburg for a smaller competition that draws solid teams from the Carolinas.

“Next up will be the Pre-National Invitational at Louisville where we will line-up against national level competition and give ourselves a great test as we head into the ACC Championships. The conference meet in Tallahassee and the NCAA South Region meet in Tuscaloosa are both on courses we are very familiar with and will give us a great shot to be at our best when it counts the most.”

The Pre-Nationals Invite on Oct. 17 in Louisville, Ky., will be Georgia Tech’s final tune up before it heads to Tallahassee, Fla., for the ACC Championships.

The NCAA South Regionals are set for Nov. 13 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and the NCAA Championships are Nov. 21 in Louisville, Ky.

The women’s cross country team returns top performers in junior Melissa Fairey, junior Hayley Keadey, and seniors Morgan Jackson, Caroline Kissel and Diana Pressel. Fairey and Keadey were among Tech’s top six finishers in every meet last season, including the NCAA South Regional along with Kissel.

The men’s cross country team sees the return of senior Brandon Lasater, who is coming off a successful track season, and senior Jeremy Greenwald, who led Tech in every meet last season. Senior Zane Coburn and sophomore Nahom Solomon will also be key contributors for the men’s team.
