Cross Country Takes 10th, 11th At ACC Championships

Earlysville, Va. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams placed 10th and 11th, respectively, Friday at the 2014 ACC Championships at Panorama Farms hosted by Virginia. The men’s team was led by senior Jeremy Greenwald and the women were paced by senior Kelly Meyer.

 

In the men’s race, Syracuse took home its second-straight ACC team title by placing four runners in the top 10. The Orange won the meet with 32 total points to outdistance second-place North Carolina State, who finished with 90 points. North Carolina (95) and Virginia (121) rounded out the top four.

 

The Georgia Tech men finished 10th overall with 277 total points. Greenwald paced the team in the 8K with a time of 24:18 for 34thNahom Solomon (24:48, 60th) crossed the line next for the Yellow Jackets followed by Zane Coburn (24:52, 62nd), Alec Clifford (24:57, 70th) and Brandon Lasater (25:01, 75th).

 

North Carolina placed all five runners within the top 20 finishers and tallied 57 points to win the women’s meet, ending Florida State’s run of six-straight ACC Championships. Florida State finished second with 99 points.

 

Virginia (109 points) and North Carolina State (119) placed third and fourth, respectively.

 

The Georgia Tech women placed 11th, one spot better than last year, with a total of 289 points.

 

Meyer was the top finisher for the Yellow Jacket women, running the 6K in a time of 21:25 for 44th place.  Katie Townsend (21:34, 54th), Hayley Keadey (21:43, 61st), Melissa Fairey (21:48, 68th), and Rachel Hammond (21:51, 73rd) rounded out the top-five finishers for Tech.

 

Allison Brackin (21:52), Caroline Kissel (22:02), and Erin Radcliffe (22:20) ran solid for Georgia Tech as well.

 

The Jackets return to action at the NCAA South Regional Championships set for Nov. 14 in Tallahassee, Fla.
