Allvine, Shah Take on New Roles in GTAA

May 9, 2017

THE FLATS — Georgia Tech alumni Doug Allvine and Simit Shah have been named Tech’s assistant athletics director for innovation and assistant athletics director for brand and ideation, respectively, director of athletics Todd Stansbury announced on Tuesday.

In his new role, Allvine oversees the Georgia Tech Athletic Association’s efforts to build on its status as college athletics’ leader in innovation, particularly through collaboration and partnerships within the Institute and innovation hubs throughout Atlanta.

Shah will lead the GTAA’s newly created ideation team, which is dedicated to defining and promoting the Georgia Tech athletics brand to fans and recruits on a local, regional and national level.

“As we continue to align our staff, Doug and Simit are ideal fits as the leaders of our innovation and ideation teams,” Stansbury said. “Beyond being very talented individuals, as Georgia Tech alums and longtime GTAA staff members, they are both very familiar with the innovation that is in our DNA and the story of our incredible Georgia Tech brand. I am confident that they will both do a great job in these important roles.”

Allvine enters his new position after 12 years as assistant A.D. for special projects at Georgia Tech. In that role, he managed a broad range of strategic initiatives and projects with a focus on student services, including coordinating the degree completion program for former student-athletes and career-planning/internship placement for current student-athletes. Prior to his promotion to assistant A.D., he oversaw academic services for Georgia Tech’s football program, led Tech’s NCAA student-athlete academic reporting and managed the GTAA ticket office.

Allvine played football at Georgia Tech from 1987-89 and earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in 1992. He received an MBA from Tech in 2011. Prior to returning to his alma mater in 2003, he spent 11 years as a business consultant for Accenture. His father, Fred C. Allvine, is a professor emeritus in Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business.

Shah takes over Georgia Tech’s ideation team after spending the past five years as a digital consultant for the GTAA. Prior to joining Georgia Tech athletics, he spent 13 years at CNN/Turner, serving as the director of web operations and development for CNN.com. In that role, he contributed to CNN’s web coverage for four U.S. presidential elections.

A second-generation Georgia Tech alumnus (his father, Surendra, earned a master’s degree from Tech in 1970), Shah graduated in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and served as sports editor of the Technique (student newspaper) during his time as a Tech student. He is an 18-year football and men’s basketball season-ticket holder and an Alexander-Tharpe Fund Life Member.

Joining Shah on the new ideation team is another Georgia Tech alum, Brad Malone, who will serve as director of athletics brand and ideation. Malone, a 2009 Tech graduate (international affairs), returns for his second stint as a member of the GTAA staff. He previously served as the GTAA’s director of digital media for five years before taking a position with Alpharetta-based Huddle, Inc. in January.
