Education: Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech in 2010.
Playing Experience: Four-year letterwinner as an outfielder at Georgia Tech, 2007-10; 9th round draft pick by Detroit Tigers (2010); Played three seasons in the minors for the Tigers.

Former Yellow Jacket All-American Tony Plagman is in his second season as the volunteer assistant coach in 2015. Tech’s former first baseman returned to the Flats after three seasons in the minors with the Detroit Tigers organization, eventually retiring following the 2012 season with the Double-A Erie Seawolves in the Eastern League.

He works primarily with the outfielders and assists assistant coach Bryan Prince with the hitters. In 2014, Tech outfielders tied for the NCAA lead with 23 outfield assists as a team, led by nine from Matt Gonzalez and seven from Ryan Peurifoy. Gonzalez’s nine tied the Tech school record and were fourth-most in the NCAA.

Plagman was a four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets from 2007-10, starting 223 games in his college career and hitting .329 with 56 doubles, 55 homers and 219 RBI. He ranks sixth at Tech in career RBI, third in homers and seventh in doubles. He was drafted in the ninth round by the Tigers following the 2010 season.

Tech won 158 games over his four years, reached the NCAA Regional three times and finished fourth or better in the ACC in each season. Plagman was a four-time Academic All-ACC pick, twice named to the All-ACC Team and was third-team All-American in 2010.

As a minor leaguer, Plagman played 312 games over three seasons and hit .250 with 79 doubles, 36 home runs and 188 RBI. His best season came in 2011 with the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the Florida State League (A-Advanced), where he hit .257 with 18 homers, 97 RBI and slugged .435.

An Atlanta native, Plagman grew up in Alpharetta and attended the Wesleyan School.
