As A Sophomore In 2012-13: Named one of four team captains.
Summer of 2012: Set the Swiss National Record in the 100 fly (long course) with a time of 53.05 at the U.S. Open in Indianapolis.
As A Freshman In 2011-12: Placed his name in Georgia Tech's top 10 in six different categories... Posted the school's fifth-fastest times in both the 100 fly (47.86) and the 200 fly (1:47.76)... His 200 fly time was the fastest by a Yellow Jacket in 2011-12... Won six individual events as a rookie -- three wins in the 10 fly and three more in the 200 fly... Finished seventh overall in the 100 fly at the ACC Championship in a time of 47.90, after putting down his season-best in the prelims... as 13th in the 200 fly at the ACC Championship in 1:48.00, with his season-best of 1:47.76 coming in the prelims... Anchored both the 200 and 400 free relays that finished sixth, and was part of the 800 free relay that finished seventh at the ACC meet.
Before Tech: Swam for the Limmat Sharks Zurich Club for the last five years under head coach Dirk Reinicke ... The No. 2 all-time swimmer in the 100 fly in Switzerland ... Has won multiple Swiss National Championships in the 50, 100 and 200 fly ... Earned a spot in the 2008 European Junior Championship semifinals in the 100 fly ... Was a part of the finals in the 50, 100 and 200 fly at the 2010 FINA World Cup in Singapore ... Earned the Bronze medal in the 100 fly at the World CISM Military Games ... Was the salutatorian of his high school class.
Personal: Born Nico van Duijn on October 6, 1990 in Bulach, Zurich, Switzerland ... Parents are Eric and Flavia van Duijn ... Brother to Tina ... Chose to come to Tech because it was the best opportunity to combine competitive swimming and ambitious studying, the awesome facilities and the cool teammates ... Started swimming at the age of 10 ... Plans to major in Electrical Engineering.
