Swimming & Diving Sweeps Dual Meets Over FGCU, Liberty, North Dakota

FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Georgia Tech women's swimming and diving team swept Florida Gulf Coast, Liberty and North Dakota in a dual meet Saturday in Ft. Myers, Fla., while the men had no trouble in beating North Dakota.

The women rolled past Liberty 182-54, beat North Dakota 180-64 and got by the host Eagles 133-110. The men steam-rolled North Dakota 136-88. The sweep allowed the women to improve to 4-5 on the season, while the men claimed their first win of the season.

"It was a great meet and a great training environment to be outside in Florida," said head coach Courtney Shealy Hart. "The team worked very hard, and to top it off, we had some great individual performances. It's very exciting as we'll now have a meet every Saturday leading up to the ACC Championship."

Freshman Kate Woolbright and junior Ashley Hardy each led the way for the Yellow Jackets by contributing two wins. Woolbright was victorious in both the 1,000 and 500 free events as the rookie was clocked in 10:07.52 in winning the 1,000, and 4:57.55 in the 500.

Hardy won both diving events, taking the 1-meter with 257.94 points and winning the 3-meter with 261.85 points.

The Jackets closed the meet by winning the 200 free relay as Alexis Weber, Jessie Mason, Keren Siebner, Kate Riley teamed for a winning time of 1:35.87. GT was second in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:46.77 with the pairing of Mason, Ariana Berg, Jordan Evans and Kate Riley.

 

 

Evans also claimed victory in the 100 fly with a time of 55.79 and was second in the 200 IM (2:06.41).

The 200 free saw Tech claim three of the top four spots with Hailey White winning (1:51.98), Sarah Broadley taking second (1:52.85) and Weber in fourth (1:54.21). Broadley (51.64) and Weber (51.77) also went 1-2 in the 100 free.

Also for the Yellow Jackets, freshman Ariana Berg won the 100 breast in a time of 1:05.53.

The men's team led wire-to-wire in taking down North Dakota by winning all 13 events and cruising to a 136-88 win. The meet was exhibitioned after the ninth event.

Junior Bo Hatchett won three events for Tech, swimming on both winning relays and taking gold in the 100 back (51.06). Hatchett got the meet started with a win in the 200 medley relay, along with Ryan Salmon, Nico van Duijn and Ben Shepperd in a time of 1:32.04.

The 200 free relay was clocked in 1:23.35 that included Hatchett, Eric Chiu, Andrew Kosic and Shepperd.

Anton Lagerqvist also picked up a pair of wins - taking the 200 IM (1:52.68) and the 100 breast (56.97). van Duijn won both the 100 fly (48.70) and the 500 free (4:37.60), while Kosic was clocked in 1:40.09 in winning the 200 free and 44.81 in winning the 100 free.

Chris Khosravi won the 1-meter diving with 286.80 points, while Brandon Makinson scored 361.75 points to take the 3-meter event.

The Yellow Jackets return to action next Saturday with an ACC double dual meet versus Florida State and North Carolina State at the GT Aquatic Center. Action begins at 11 a.m.
