Tech Women Hold Eighth At ACC Swimming & Diving Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Junior Ashley Hardy finished eighth overall on the 1-meter springboard Friday, helping Georgia Tech hold on to eighth place at the 2013 ACC Swimming & Diving Championship in Greensboro, N.C.

Hardy posted an impressive score of 300.25 during Friday's prelims to lock up a spot in the finals, and followed that with a score of 278.45 to finish eighth and score 11 points for the Yellow Jackets.

Tech's 400 medley relay of freshman Carly Sweeney, sophomore Catherine Richards, sophomore Kate Brandus and senior Kate Riley were clocked in a time of 3:45.29, which was also good for an eighth-place finish.

Also scoring points for the Jackets on Friday were freshman Frederique Lefebvre and sophomore Kate Woolbright in the 400 IM. Lefebvre put down a time of 4:24.49 - the third-fastest in Tech history - to finish 14th, and Woolbright was 15th in a time of 4:26.11.

With 122 points, Tech remains in eighth place heading into Saturday's final day of action. Virginia still leads the women's championship with 560 points.

The last day of the championship starts on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the preliminaries of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, and 200 fly. Women's platform diving prelims and finals start at 1 p.m., with the men's platform prelims starting at 4 p.m. and finishing with the finals at 8 p.m. The swimming finals, including the 1650 freestyle, start at 7 p.m.
