Having spent two seasons at Memphis as the Tiger's video coordinator under Josh Pastner, Tyler Benson joined Pastner's staff at Georgia Tech in a similar role as director of scouting in May, 2016.
As he did at Memphis (2014-16), Benson oversees all the team's video operations and manages the collection and analysis of video to assist the coaching staff in its scouting and keeping the program's video and computer equipment up-to-date. He also manages the team's equipment and apparel.
Benson moved into that position after one year (2013-14) as a graduate manager at Ole Miss, where he assisted head coach Andy Kennedy's staff with practice and the scout team, oversaw the team's undergraduate student assistants and assisted the video coordinator with breaking down tape and drafting scouting reports.
Prior to that, Benson was a coach for four seasons, first as an assistant coach at West Virginia Wesleyan (2009-10) and then for three years at St. John's Northwestern Military Academy (2010-13) in Delafield, Wis., helping 32 Lancers earn NCAA Division I scholarships.
A native of Morgantown, W.Va., Benson earned four letters playing basketball at St. Bonaventure, serving as the Bonnies' team captain as a senior, and graduated in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in business administration/management sciences.
