ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Trae Golden scored 19 points, including a 3-pointer to cap Georgia Tech's 12-2 run to open the second half, leading the Yellow Jackets beat Georgia 80-71 on Friday night for their third straight win in the state rivalry.
Golden's 3-pointer gave Georgia Tech a 55-40 lead less than 4 minutes into the second half. The Yellow Jackets led only 43-38 at halftime.
Georgia Tech kept the lead in double figures most of the second half.
Senior center Daniel Miller had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Georgia Tech (3-0), which dominated play inside.
Kammeon Holsey came off the bench to scored 10 points and grab a career-igh 12 rebounds, his second career double-double, and Marcus Georges-Hunt added 10.
Georgia Tech has three straight wins in the series for the first time since 1992-94, including two straight wins in Athens. The Yellow Jackets won in Athens two years ago for the first time since 1976.
Tech also has won bsck-to-back games in Athens for the first time since it won three straight in 1959, 1960 and 1961, when All-American Roger Kaiser played for the Yellow Jackets.
Charles Mann led Georgia (1-1) with a career-high 24 points. Mann made each of his four 3-point attempts.
Tech returns home to play its next three games at McCamish Pavilion, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 20, against Dayton at 7 p.m.
