Defensive Continuity Is Key For Cross
The Jackets hope to make big strides in defensive coordinator Al Groh's third year
A huge and powerful player who played significant snaps last season at nose tackle... should benefit from having a year of experience in the 3-4 defense under his belt... should compete with senior Logan Walls and others for the starting job... played as a true freshman in 2009 behind two starting tackles (Darryl Richard and Vance Walker) who are now in the NFL.
2010 (Sophomore)
Played in 12 games and started once (vs. Miami)... recorded 20 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and had one pass break-up... had at least one tackle in every game he played... registered a career-high five tackles, including four solo tackles, in the win at North Carolina (Sept. 18)... had three tackles and a half-tackle for loss in the win at Wake Forest (Oct. 2)... recorded three tackles at Georgia (Nov. 27).
2009 (Freshman): Showed great promise as a back-up defensive tackle... played in all 14 games... made first career start vs. Clemson in the ACC Championship Game... played a more prominent role as the season progressed... recorded 16 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss... also had a quarterback hurry... had four tackles and a half-tackle for loss vs. Georgia (Nov. 28)... recorded a then career-high four tackles in the win over Virginia Tech (Oct. 17)... had a pair of solo tackles and a tackle for loss at Mississippi State (Oct. 3).
2008:
Redshirted and served as a key member of the scout team.
