You Gotta Accentuate the Positive

Head Coach Paul Johnson talked about the positives in Tuesday's press conference.

After playing behind All-ACC Jonathan Dwyer in 2009 and All-ACC Anthony Allen in 2010, Watson will compete with others for the starting B-back role... has been a reserve and special teams player each of the previous two seasons... a big, strong runner with potential... a big, bruising back who runs with power... a north-south runner who is very tough between the tackles.

2010 (Sophomore):
Saw action in all 13 games... rushed 10 times for 32 yards... carried three times for 10 yards in the season opener vs. South Carolina State (Sept. 4)... had three carries for 13 yards vs. Middle Tennessee State (Oct. 16).

2009 (Freshman)
A reserve at B-back... played in six games... rushed nine times for 37 yards (4.1 ypa) and one touchdown... rushed four times for 25 yards (6.2 ypa) in the season opener against Jacksonville State (Sept. 5)... had two carries for two yards at Virginia (Oct. 24)... had two carries for eight yards and his first career touchdown at Duke (Nov. 14).

2008
Redshirted as a true freshman although he came dangerously close to shedding the redshirt in midseason... slowed in the preseason with a hamstring injury... a big, bruising back who runs with power... a north-south runner who is very tough between the tackles... has good balance and quick feet for a big back.... prefers to run through defenders as opposed to around them... was a star on offense on the high school level but has the skills to play linebacker on defense.

High School
selected to the FSWA Class 1B All-State Team... member of the Florida Times Union's Super 75... named to Superprep's All-Florida team... led FAMU High School to the Class 1B state championship game in back-to-back years including a state title as a junior... led team to three consecutive district titles and two straight regional crowns... rushed for more than 1,500 yards as a senior... as a junior, ran for 2,140 yards and 34 touchdowns, ending the season with a 123-yard effort in the state championship game... served two years as a team captain... earned the Tallahassee Quarterback Club's Offensive Player of the Year... made 75 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss and five sacks as a sophomore... chose Georgia Tech over Ohio State, Boston College, Arkansas and others... selected Georgia Tech because of the academics, the coaches and the family atmosphere.
