Golfers in 12th at UH-Hilo Intercollegiate

Kohala Coast, Hawai’i – Seniors David Dragoo (1-over-par 73) and Cameron Tringale (2-over 74) paced Georgia Tech in the first round of the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate on Wednesday, but the 10th-ranked Yellow Jackets are 20 shots off the pace and in 12th place as a team.

Sophomore J.T. Griffin posted a 76 on the par-72 Mauna Lani Course, while junior Chesson Hadley shot a 78 and freshman James White an 80 as Tech shot a 13-over-par 301.

Three teams broke par on Wednesday, led by 11th-ranked Washington at 7-under 281, followed by No. 2 Southern California (3-under 285) and Oregon (1-under 287). No. 16 Texas Tech and No. 20 TCU are tied for fourth (291).

Sixteen players broke par for the day, led by Hawai’i-Hilo’s Rodolfo Estrada, who shot a 6-under-par 66 playing as an individual. Washington’s Richard Lee (4-under 68) is in second, and teammate Nick Taylor is tied with USC’s Jamie Lovemark at 3-under 69.

Dragoo is seven shots off the lead, tied for 24th place with 10 others, while Tringale is in a seven-player tie for 35th. Griffin is tied for 47th, and Hadley is tied for 63rd. Freshman Minghao Wang, playing as an individual, also fired an 80 and is tied for 76th along with White.

Round two begins at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time Thursday.
