Norman, Okla. - Bo Andrews, a rising fifth-year senior on the Georgia Tech golf team with a 3.8 cumulative grade-point average in Management, was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association.

Andrews, who was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic golf team last month, added the national academic honor to what has been the best year of his Tech career competitively. The native of Raleigh, N.C., was an all-region choice by the GCAA for a year in which he won the Gary Koch Invitational, helped Tech win two tournaments and advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship and finished the spring ranked No. 105 in the Golfstat Cup.

This summer, he has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, finished as the runner-up at the Northeast Amateur and tied for fourth at the Sahalee Players Championship.

A total of 238 players in NCAA Division I, II and III and in NAIA were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the GCAA. To be eligible, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Tech, which has posted a perfect 1,000 score in the NCAA's Academic Progress Report eight years running, has had at least one golfer earn this honor in 13 of the last 14 years.
