THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis (3-2) grabbed a 4-1 win over hometown rival Georgia State (4-3) at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex on Friday evening. The Yellow Jackets will finish out the weekend in Auburn on Sunday with a 12 p.m. CT start.

Singles Update: Junior Christopher Eubanks came back from a first set loss to win on court one, topping former high school teammate Zackery Kennedy, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Senior Cole Fiegel improved to 3-0 on the season, beating Jack MacFarlane in straight sets on court six, 6-1, 6-3 to put the Jackets up 3-0. Freshman Chris Yun battled hard against Quentin Coulaud but fell, 6-3, 6-4 to give the Panthers their only point of the dual. Daniel Yun clinched the win for the Jackets on court five, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.

Doubles Update: The Jackets took the doubles point for the third time this season. Carlos Benito and Carlos Divar finished first, advancing to 3-1 on the season with a 6-4 victory over Acuna and Andrukou. Fiegel and Daniel Yun quickly followed suit, clinching the doubles point for Tech with a 6-2 rout of Jaworski and Coulaud.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “I thought we did much better in doubles today. Georgia State is a good team; they were playing with a lot of confidence and we knew they were going to be playing well. I felt we matched very well. Going into singles, I think we were over-hitting a little bit but we settled down, started playing the right way and got our rhythm and did a good job. This team has some good resolve about them so it’s going to be fun to see what they can do.”
