THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis (9-2) completed the sweep of its ACC opening weekend with a 5-2 victory over No. 33 Florida State (9-4) on Sunday afternoon. The Jackets travel to Miami on Sunday, Mar. 12 for their next ACC matchup.

Singles Update: Christopher Eubanks came out hot, quickly rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Guy Iradukun on court one to even the score at one a piece after Tech dropped the doubles point. Andrew Li gave the Jackets the 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 94 Aziz Dougaz on court two. Daniel Yun took care of business on court six with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Alex Knaff. Cole Fiegel clinched the win for the Jackets, advancing to 8-0 on the season with a 7-5, 6-4 win at the five position. After the Jackets clinched, freshman Carlos Divar dropped a tough match on court four. Carlos Benito took the final match into a long tiebreaker in the third set but came away with the win.

Doubles Update: The Jackets took the advantage on the doubles point with a 6-2 win by Fiegel and Li. Eubanks and Daniel Yun dropped their match in a close 7-5 bout with Poullain and Gracia on court two. Benito and Divar came back from an early deficit to take their match into a tiebreaker but fell 7-6 (4), to give Florida State the doubles point.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “I was thinking after the Clemson match, if we would have lost the doubles point it would have been interesting to see how we reacted so unfortunately we got to see that today. We showed what we’re really made of. We won 5/6 first sets; they had the momentum and we jumped on them in singles. It shows a lot of the resolve that this team has.”
