ATLANTA - The Georgia Tech men's tennis team swept all doubles and singles matches to shut out Maryland, 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

With the win, the 25th ranked Yellow Jackets improved to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in the ACC. The Jackets also extended their winning streak to six and improved to 11-0 on the season at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Maryland fell to 10-7 overall, 1-5 in the ACC.

"Maryland came in today as a very dangerous team, but we didn't put ourselves in a position to be in danger," head coach Kenny Thorne said. "We got on top early in doubles, which was very important and was a great thing to do. In singles, we felt coming in that we had to get off to just as fast of a start and I thought we shut the door on them pretty quickly.

"It was a good win for us against a good team that never gave up."

The Yellow Jackets got off to a fast start after sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead overall. The first team to wrap up their match Eliot Potvin and Ryan Smith, who were 8-3 winners in the number two spot over Jesse Kiuru and John Collins of the Terrapins.

Tech clinched the doubles point at number one, as Juan Spir and Kevin King knocked off Maryland's Graham Knowlton and Ian Mansfield 8-5. At number three doubles, Guillermo Gomez and Dean O'Brien completed the sweep with a hard fought 8-7 (7-3) win over Tommy Laine and Sergio Wyss.

In singles, Gomez, the fourth-ranked singles player in the latest ITA Rankings, made quick work of Laine, earning a 6-3, 6-1 win to increase the Jackets' lead to 2-0. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 3-0 after Dusan Miljevic knocked off Mansfield at number six singles 6-2, 6-0.

At number five singles, freshman Magin Ortiga clinched the match for the Jackets with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ryan Lissner of Maryland, making the score 4-0 Georgia Tech

In other action, King was a straight set winner (6-1, 6-4) over Kiruru at number two singles, while Miguel Muguruza also won in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) over Wyss of the Terrapins.

In the final match completed on the afternoon, Potvin won a tough match over John Collins at number three singles, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6). With Potvin's win, the Jackets swept singles action and did not lose a set to the Terrapins in the process.

Georgia Tech concludes its three-match ACC home stand tomorrow, when it hosts Boston College at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
