THE FLATS – With only singles action on the docket Saturday, Georgia Tech men’s tennis used impressive performances to take eight wins overall
After a first-round bye in singles, Carlos Divar earned two, straight-set victories over Giles Hussey of Georgia State and Thomas Mayronne of South Carolina. Divar downed Hussey 6-2, 6-3, before defeating Mayronne 6-4, 7-5.
Michael Kay also earned two wins on the day, defeating teammate Elijah Melendez and Sebastian Acuna of Georgia State in two hard-fought battles. Kay needed three sets to take Melendez, eventually winning 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. And despite needing just two sets to take Acuna, both sets were decided by a thin margin (7-5, 7-6(8).

Phillip Gresk continued his strong fall with two wins on Saturday. He took down South Carolina’s Thomas Brown handily, 6-2, 6-2, before downing Georgia State’s seeded player, Quentin Coulaud, in a grind-them-out affair, 7-6(7), 7-5.
Going 1-1 overall on the day was Brandon Freestone. The freshman made quick work of his match against Virginia’s Jerome Romauldez, 6-0, 6-2, but suffered a 5-7, 7-6, 6-1 setback to Michael Durham of Auburn to close the second day of competition.
The three-day tournament concludes on Sunday, Nov. 5, beginning with doubles action at 9 a.m.
