Eubanks Travels to USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships
Georgia Tech men’s tennis Christopher Eubanks to compete in Flushing, N.Y.
FLUSHING, N.Y. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis junior Christopher Eubanks travels to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 3-6 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
In his first round match on Thursday, Eubanks will face University of Texas freshman Yuya Ito at 12:45 p.m. His opponent enters the tournament with an 11-4 record this fall season.
Eubanks was ranked a career-high fifth in the ITA preseason rankings in September. The 6-foot-7, All-American advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships to earn his spot in Flushing. He was the first Yellow Jacket to advance to the quarterfinals in the men’s singles main draw in the tournament.
It is Eubanks’ third time playing at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center since August. He competed at the center in August in the qualifying round of the U.S. Open and again in September for the American Intercollegiate Championships.
Eubanks enters the tournament with a 4-2 record with three of his wins coming against top-100 ranked opponents. Eubanks represented the ACC and Georgia Tech at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif. in October. The Atlanta native fell in the second round of singles play in Malibu but won the mixed doubles title with partner Hayley Carter (North Carolina).
Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “Chris plays tomorrow against a University of Texas opponent that has had a great fall. We feel good about where Chris’ game has come over the past six months. These national events are great opportunities to work on managing his game better. He is ready and excited to do just that, one match at a time and playing with good purpose and poise. [Volunteer Coach] Kevin King will be with him this weekend up in New York. I like that two of the best players to come through Georgia Tech will be up there fighting together.”
