Tech Track Impresses At National Meets

Alphonso Jordan earned a seventh place finish in the triple jump over the course of the weekend

EUGENE, Ore. - From June 23-26, four former Georgia Tech athletes competed at the United States Track and Field National Championship in Track Town, USA at the World Famous Hayward Field. Joanna Wright, Chaunte (Howard) Lowe, Alphonso Jordan and Angelo Taylor all took part in the meet.

Taylor was the lone Jacket to earn a spot on the national team with his third place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Taylor eased his way into the finals and, in one of the closest races of the weeked, took third with a time of 47.94 seconds just behind Jeshua Anderson (47.921) and Bershawn Jackson (47.930).

Also doing well on the weekend was Jordan who finished in seventh place in the triple jump with a leap of 16.73 meters. He secured his seventh place finish on his fourth jump of the day. The duo of Christian Taylor and William Claye of Florida took the top two spots in the event.

Recent graduate Wright, appearing at her first USATF meet, earned an eighth place finish with a near career best height of 4.30 meters, just a tenth of a meter shy of the school record height that she set at the Seminole Invitational. Wright registered the second highest finish among college athletes in competition.

Lowe finished her competition with a ninth place finish in the high jump notching a height of 1.78 meters. The event was won by Brigetta Barrett of Arizona.
