Peachtree Road Race Founder Tim Singleton Passes Away

THE FLATS - Former Georgia Tech football and track athlete Tim Singleton passed away Wednesday in Atlanta at the age of 76.

A graduate of Druid Hills High School, Singleton attended Georgia Tech in the late 1950s where he ran track (1957-59) under head coach Norris Dean and played football (1957) under head coach Bobby Dodd. Singleton went on to establish the Atlanta Track Club and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race.

He was Georgia State's cross-country coach from 1966-72 and during that time he helped to organize the first Peachtree Road Race in 1970, which is held annually on July 4. He was inducted into the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
