Angelo Taylor Qualifies For Semifinals At London Olympics

LONDON, England – Former Georgia Tech track star and Team USA men’s track captain Angelo Taylor qualified for the semifinal round of the men’s 400-meter hurdles early Friday morning at Olympic Stadium in London, England.
Competing in his fourth Olympic Games, Taylor finished first in Heat 5 and 13th overall with a time of 49.29 in the first round, which will air tape-delayed tonight on NBC’s prime time Olympic coverage. Taylor will race again Saturday, Aug. 4 in the semifinals. The final round of the men’s 400-meter hurdles will be Monday, Aug. 6.
Taylor will compete against 46 runners in the semifinals and will run in the second heat. The 33-year-old Taylor is looking to win the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles for his third straight Olympic Games, having also taken home the gold in the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Also representing the USA and Georgia Tech track and field in the Summer Olympics is high jumper Chaunte (Howard) Lowe. She will jump in the qualifying round on Thursday, Aug. 9, and the finals are set for Saturday, Aug. 11.
