THE FLATS – On the first day of the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (0-2) fell 6-0 to the Ohio State Buckeyes (4-1) Friday night at Mewborn Field.

How It Happened

Ohio State put up three runs through the first two innings before Georgia Tech freshman pitcher Jenna Goodrich settled into the game.  Goodrich pitched three solid innings before the Buckeyes scored three additional runs across the sixth and seventh innings to take the 6-0 lead.

Freshman Jordan Deep got the Jackets’ first hit of the game on a line drive to right center in her first collegiate at bat in a pinch hit appearance in the sixth inning.

Goodrich (0-1) suffered the loss after throwing a complete-game with six runs on seven hits. Ohio State’s Shelby Hursh (3-0) earned the win, limiting the Jackets to one hit through seven innings of work.

Quote
“It took Jenna a few innings to settle in,” head coach Shelly Hoerner said. “I thought she did a good job in the middle of the game and I think she got tired toward the end. That’s stamina right now. She’s going to pitch a lot of pitches, and she has to stay strong. She has her first game under her belt.

“Defensively, I thought we played ok. We have to make better adjustments when hitting. We’ve got to be able to put the ball in play and limit our strikeouts. That’s what we took away from this game. We have to put the barrel on the ball.”

What’s Next
The Jackets take on Ohio State again at 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a 5:30 p.m. against Purdue.
