Gizdova and Otsuka Claim Doubles Title at Roberta Alison Fall Classic
Georgia Tech women’s tennis wraps up fall tournament
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – On the final day of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, Georgia Tech’s Nadia Gizdova and Nami Otsuka took home a doubles title, while Kenya Jones competed for a singles title and Luca Fabian also represented the Yellow Jackets.
Taking Home the Title
Claiming both doubles matches on Saturday, the Yellow Jacket tandem of Gizdova and Otsuka captured the Nancy Harris Doubles Draw title. After defeating UTC’s Edwards/Patton 8-6, the Jackets advanced to the title match to face MSU’s Rioux/Lizariturny. With an 8-5 victory, Tech took home the title.
Jones and Fabian also wrapped up doubles play on Saturday. The duo fell in the first doubles match of the morning, 8-0, to Ole Miss’ Suk/Jandric before suffering an 8-6 loss to Virginia’s Spielman/Hinton in the second contest of the day.
Wrapping Up Singles Play
One round of singles action was played on Saturday. Jones sought the title of the Selia Mathew Singles Draw, but was forced to retire due to an injury after dropping the first set 6-0. Gizdova took Tech’s lone singles victory on Saturday, defeating Grace Jennings of Samford in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
In the Becca Baum Draw, Otsuka fell in her match to Auburn’s Alannah Griffin, 6-2, 6-2. Luca Fabian, competing in the consolation bracket, dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Hanna Sohn of Memphis.
Tech wrapped up fall competition this weekend and will return in the spring for the dual match season.
