ITA Division I Women’s Rankings

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team checks in at #20 in the 2014 ITA women’s season-opening poll which was released on January 2. The sophomore doubles duo of Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard are ranked #4 in the nation in the doubles rankings after winning the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships doubles title this past fall.

Kurey and Woodard captured the national indoor doubles title on Nov. 10, 2013 after defeating Louisville’s Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine in the championship match. The tandem went 14-4 this fall and owned an impressive 7-3 record against nationally ranked opponents. The duo finished off the season on a nine-match winning streak, including three straight victories during national indoors on their way to the national doubles title.

The national doubles title capped off a successful fall season for the Yellow Jackets. Tech welcomes back senior Muriel Wacker and sophomores Kurey, Woodard and Natasha Prokhnevska from the 2013 squad that finished the season ranked at #21 and advanced to the second-round of the NCAA tournament. The Jackets are joined by freshmen Rasheeda McAdoo and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and sophomore Nicole Gottret Murillo for the 2014 season.

Georgia Tech is one of eight ACC schools that are ranked in the top-25 in the rankings, joining North Carolina (3), Miami (9), Duke (10), Clemson (t-13), Virginia (t-13), Notre Dame (21) and Florida State (24).

The Yellow Jackets open up the 2014 season at the Michigan Invitational on Jan. 18.
