Women’s Track Places 36th at NCAA Championships
Bria Matthews placed earns another first team All-America award
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Georgia Tech track and field freshman Bria Matthews wrapped up an impressive rookie indoor season with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump to give the women’s track team a 36th-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Matthews leaped to a distance of 13.16m (43-2.25) and earned first team All-America honors in the event a day after she earned the same honors in the long jump.
“Bria had another great day, competed with tremendous poise, and it was exciting to watch,” head women’s track and field coach Alan Drosky said. “In both jumps she finished higher than she was ranked coming into the meet. It was also exciting to see the women's team finish 36th in the nation. We can take the momentum from a great indoor season into the outdoor season which starts next week.”
The Yellow Jackets kick off the outdoor season at the Alabama Relays. The two-day meet takes place March 18-19 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
