DES MOINES - On day two of the NCAA Championships, Georgia Tech track and field jumper Julienne McKee set a new school record in the long jump with her 10th place, 6.30m (20-8) leap at Drake Stadium, Thursday.
The jump was the longest of McKee's short career on the Flats and breaks a 10 year old record set in 2003 by Jessica DeFreitas. DeFreitas' jump was 20-7.75 feet long.
McKee's 10th place finish gives her second team All-America honors, it was also her highest finish in a national meet after placing 22nd in the triple jump last season.
The sophomore will resume competition on Saturday morning when she competes in her second event of the meet, the triple jump.
