@GT_MTEN: Party Above the ATL

Sept. 19, 2014

THE FLATS – For the first time in a few years, Georgia Tech’s men’s tennis team ventured away from the Ken Byers Tennis Complex to shoot its team photo. What resulted was a bit of a party above the Atlanta skyline.

Thanks to the W Hotel and one of its residents, Georgia Tech graduate Simit Shah, the Yellow Jackets were able to climb to the top of the W and its helipad to shoot their official team photo and a lot more. As you can see in the accompanying gallery, Tech’s players took advantage of all the fantastic views to shoot selfies and strike all kinds of poses for our cameraman, Danny Karnik.

“Probably the best time we’ve had in a photo shoot since I’ve been here,” said head coach Kenny Thorne, a Tech grad himself now in his 17th year coaching the Jackets. “However, I was a bit preoccupied with guys not getting to close to the edge. Helipads don’t have guard rails, and that makes it that much better for pictures. It also makes it much more nerve-racking when your team is jumping around trying to get that perfect shot. All was done safely, and it was an absolutely beautiful day. We had so many great pics with downtown, midtown and Georgia Tech in the background. Great time!!

Look for some of these photos on Tech’s poster and other marketing materials when they are published in January.
